Carbon Tax – a Costly Pointless Gesture

Minister Combet’s announcement that they are going to compensate working families for the cost of carbon tax should confirm one thing; a carbon tax is going to cost working families.

The fundamental issue here is that a carbon tax is not going to change the temperature of the globe or change the climate in any shape or form. It is merely a gesture. A gesture that means that those who are already finding it extremely difficult to get by are going to have that difficulty exacerbated by a pointless tax with a deceitful inference that it will the change global climatic conditions.

What is the point of taking money off people, spinning it around a bureaucracy and giving people back a bit of their own money and expecting be thanked for it? Why don’t you just let people keep their own money and go away?

In the meantime you put up the price of the fundamental mechanism of commerce, power, so what is now our competitive advantage? Obviously we don’t want lower wages so ultimately there will be fewer jobs.

Is Australia going to be reduced to a country that digs up red rocks and black rocks, iron and coal and sends them over to where they don’t have a carbon tax so they can produce the things we used to produce?

Doesn’t the government get it? The people don’t want this tax and surely the have some right in being respected on this decision.

Even on the CFMEU website, the majority of the workers don’t want a carbon tax. I’m sure that this is not a National Party stronghold, so my advice to the Labor party is, listen to your own people otherwise it will end up in tears, like the NSW election.

The Ultimate Green Test

When a bulldozer blade they’re restraining,
It’s no time for the Greens to be feigning,
But the ultimate test and the proof of their zest
Is to cycle to work when it’s raining.

Why people vote Green:

The Magic Horn of Plenty

We are told that the carbon tax will be “revenue neutral”.

Big deal. So was the budget in Soviet Russia – they took 100% of your income and spent it all.

But carbon tax collectors look like spending far more than their income.

Those magicians in Canberra are going to reimburse all “low income” people for the effect of their carbon tax on the cost for electricity and food. And also reduce the petrol excise. And exempt export industries. And pay our share of the UN Cancun Climate giveaway of $100 billion per year. And give subsidies and tax breaks to Green Energy. And purchase carbon credits. And provide $800 million per year to the Climate Research Industry. And pay $5.6 million annually to feed the Tom Foolery Climate Commission. And pay the bills for the wall-to-wall meetings of the Climate Change junkies. And bribe farmers with soil carbon mirages. And pay to set up the Garnaut Carbon Bank. And pay for Garnaut’s Independent Carbon Regulator. And fund the Henry reforms of tax and social security.

We have a modern fiscal miracle – “Carbon Tax – the Magic Horn of Plenty that never runs dry”.

The Carbon Tax and the Spending on Propaganda

It seems that a self indulgent government has already spent much of the money it will raise with a tax on carbon dioxide – on promoting its own agenda.

Most recent is the Flannery “Climate Commission” soaking up $5.6 million. Then the Garnaut Review of the Garnaut report. Then the well staffed experts serving the Green/ALP coalition’s “multi party committee on climate change”.

Then all the juicy jaunts to the never ending international conferences in all the world’s best resorts.

As Alan Moran, says using tax payer funds to convince tax payers to part with more funds is the hallmark of the state where nanny knows best.

David Evans, Carbon Accounting Modeller, Says It’s a Scam

Dr David Evans’ address to the Anti-Carbon-Tax rally, Perth Australia, 23 March 2011.

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen.

The debate about global warming has reached ridiculous proportions and is full of micro thin half-truths and misunderstandings. I am a scientist who was on the carbon gravy train, understands the evidence, was once an alarmist, but am now a skeptic. Watching this issue unfold has been amusing but, lately, worrying. This issue is tearing society apart, making fools and liars out of our politicians.

Let’s set a few things straight.

The whole idea that carbon dioxide is the main cause of the recent global warming is based on a guess that was proved false by empirical evidence during the 1990s. But the gravy train was too big, with too many jobs, industries, trading profits, political careers, and the possibility of world government and total control riding on the outcome. So rather than admit they were wrong, the governments, and their tame climate scientists, now cheat and lie outrageously to maintain the fiction that carbon dioxide is a dangerous pollutant.

Let’s be perfectly clear. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, and other things being equal, the more carbon dioxide in the air, the warmer the planet. Every bit of carbon dioxide that we emit warms the planet. But the issue is not whether carbon dioxide warms the planet, but how much.

Most scientists, on both sides, also agree on how much a given increase in the level of carbon dioxide raises the planet’s temperature, if just the extra carbon dioxide is considered. These calculations come from laboratory experiments; the basic physics have been well known for a century.

Coalition to Stop the Carbon Tax

Twenty two organisations representing thousands of Australians all over the country have signed a letter to Prime Minister Gillard opposing the carbon tax. These diverse organisations, representing widely varied interests, are united in opposition to imposing a tax on carbon dioxide that will have no effect whatsoever on global climate, little effect on the production of carbon dioxide but a large effect on the cost of living and job prospects for Australians. This is merely a wealth redistribution scheme where most of the wealth will be consumed on compliance, regulation, red tape and subsidies and exemptions for the Climate Change Industry and their supporters.

The Battle of our Times

This year will see the climax of the Climate War in Australia. Once the new Senators take their seats Gillard and the Greens will try to legislate their carbon dioxide tax followed by the carbon rationing scheme.

We can expect no help from the big end of town – they are too busy designing exemptions or benefits for themselves. All stops will be pulled out with the government media, the research mercenaries, the climate change industry and paid spruikers like Garnaut and Flannery all firing broadsides.

Opposing them are a few independent scientists, a few sceptical journalists, a growing band of bloggists and thousands of concerned consumers and tax payers.

Politics is a numbers game, so we need help from every member and supporter. Please pass on these messages to friends and associates, write letters to the media, swamp the politicians with questions and opposition, swell the numbers at rallies and protests, ask awkward questions of politicians in public, and recruit new supporters.

The taxaholics will fail in the end, but the longer this scam continues the greater the cost and harm done to our economy, our cost of living and our environment.

No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.

Please play a part in this great battle of our times.

Carbon Tax Creates Jobs

If it achieves nothing else the Carbon Tax will create a career path for second hand car salesmen and failed politicians. You can now pay your money, do a two day course and become accredited in Carbon Accounting. The course is available via University or private suppliers.

I have always suspected Mining Engineers and Metallurgists got their certificates from a Kellogg Wheaties packet but we Accountants always had more stringent requirements. Whilst there were some issues on the fringes of our profession , who can forget the bottom of the harbour schemes? At least those guys had the decency to call themselves Tax Agents not Accountants.

This carbon accounting is a black art, no self respecting accountant would become involved in measuring the emissions from a bovine animal, calculating the carbon content and then coming up with a dollar value payable as a tax .

This course should be called Carbon Engineering or better still Carbon Gymnastics and taught in the Arts Faculty.

Green Peasants of the Pacific

The Carbon Sense Coalition today claimed that Australia and New Zealand were in danger of becoming the green peasants of the Pacific.

The Chairman of “Carbon Sense”, Mr Viv Forbes, said that the only way the two countries could achieve their unrealistic emissions targets was by exporting their industries, reducing their population or creating chronic recession.

In a detailed submission to the New Zealand Government, the Carbon Sense Coalition concludes that their emissions targets are not feasible, not sustainable and not justified.

The submission, entitled “Clean, Green and Barefoot in the Snow” can be found at: http://carbon-sense.com/2011/02/28/barefoot-in-the-snow/

“The submission analyses the maths of the proposal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to 50% of 1990 levels by 2050.
