How Can They Spend So Much on “Climate Research”?

Just a few US government bodies plan to spend US$2,481,000,000 on “Climate Research” in 2011. Not on roads, not on bridges, not on snow ploughs – on Climate PR supporting the world effort to tax and ration our use of energy.

See: http://climatequotes.com/2011/01/08/how-can-climate-scientists-spend-so-much-money/

At least A$800,000,000 is being spent annually in Australia on “Climate Research”. Not on flood-proof roads, airports and bridges, not on water storage, not on emergency helicopters – just wasted on chasing the climate will-o-the-wisp.

See: http://carbon-sense.com/2010/02/16/green-jobs-galore/

And the UK government plans to spend one thousand million pounds on carbon capture and burial. Not on reliable low cost energy; not on snow-proof airports – just wasted trying to bury natural aerial plant food.

Green Peasants of the Pacific

The Carbon Sense Coalition today claimed that Australia and New Zealand were in danger of becoming the green peasants of the Pacific.

The Chairman of “Carbon Sense”, Mr Viv Forbes, said that the only way the two countries could achieve their unrealistic emissions targets was by exporting their industries, reducing their population or creating chronic recession.

In a detailed submission to the New Zealand Government, the Carbon Sense Coalition concludes that their emissions targets are not feasible, not sustainable and not justified.

The submission, entitled “Clean, Green and Barefoot in the Snow” can be found at: http://carbon-sense.com/2011/02/28/barefoot-in-the-snow/

“The submission analyses the maths of the proposal to reduce carbon dioxide emissions to 50% of 1990 levels by 2050.

Lord Christopher Monckton to Visit Australia

Lord Monckton, one of the most well informed commentators on Thermomania and Climategate, is coming to Australia at the invitation of several concerned Australians. He will be giving a series of talks in all mainland capitals and Noosa. We will post details as soon as they are confirmed.

Lord Monckton has also written to PM Rudd on comments the PM made in his talk to the Lowry Institute about the “small number of dangerous, well funded climate-change deniers”. Lord Monckton’s open letter to PM Rudd can be seen here:

“Global Warming” is Man-Made After All

There is a colossal scandal erupting in the blogosphere, and in the better media. Someone, probably an insider offended by what he saw was going on, leaked a large volume of emails from within the global warming priesthood centred within the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, UK.

These show a pattern of manipulation, suppression and selection of data and evidence all designed to create and maintain the global warming myth. So now we know – Global Warming is man-made after all – it is created by men using manufactured data, dodgy computer models and “mates reviewed” papers by a small group of dedicated believers posing as scientists.

No one has fully assessed what it all means yet, but for a flavour of what will be revealed see:

Ocean Acidification

OCEAN ACIDIFICATION IS A MYTH
Cliff Ollier
Honorary Research Fellow, The University of Western Australia

Email: cliff.ollier@uwa.edu.au

INTRODUCTION

Climate alarmists believe the world is warming, and that this is caused exclusively by man-made carbon dioxide. ‘Global Warming” is now stretched to Climate Change”, but it must be stressed that carbon dioxide can only produce warming: the deceptive change of name does not change the alleged process.

To demonise carbon dioxide further it is supposed to cause ‘acidification’ of the oceans. They claim that anthropogenic carbon dioxide causes the ocean to become more ‘acid’, which dissolves carbonate. This despite the fact that the oceans are alkaline, and have never been acid throughout their existence on Earth. We are implored to reduce the production of anthropogenic carbon dioxide to ‘protect’ the ocean. In this article I show that such claims are baseless, and indeed that carbon dioxide is beneficial to the ocean.

Carbon Pollution – Health Warnings Needed?

We’re told we need a carbon tax to combat dangerous carbon pollution.

The public therefore surely needs health warnings on products contaminated by this dangerous “pollutant”?

The bubbles from beer, champagne and soda water are carbon dioxide which contains 27% carbon. If carbon pollution is as bad as we are told, maybe there should be a law banning consumption of such polluting drinks in enclosed areas or public places?

Cane sugar contains a dangerously high 40% carbon, barbeque steak contains 53% carbon and fats and oils contain over 70% carbon. These products should display health warnings:

“This product contains carbon, a declared dangerous pollutant. Use of this product will cause floods and droughts, frosts and heatwaves. Exercise caution when using.”

In fact, as every food product contains carbon, there should be a health warning at the entrance of every grocery store and restaurant:

“Polluted Products Warning: All foods sold in this outlet contain carbon.”

To emphasise the danger, the health warning should be printed in green and all food products should be sold in plain wrappers.

There could also be a “Green Tick” system for safe products free of carbon pollution. The only grocery item that has earned a green tick so far is pure water.

Diligent public protectors have also discovered that exhaled human breath contains 40,000 parts per million of carbon dioxide or about 1% carbon, one hundred times higher than fresh air. This could explain the hysterical legislative proposals coming from carbon polluted debating chambers in Canberra. Therefore, in the interests of good government, all future debates on the carbon tax should be held outdoors and no carbon polluted food or drinks should be served in government cafeterias.

Who Funds the Carbon Sense Coalition?

[A journalist (“Louise”) asked recently who funds the Carbon Sense Coalition.]

I and a few friends around Australia and overseas founded the Coalition. I have paid for the business registrations, web servers and all such related matters. No one has reimbursed me. A computer friend built the web site and has not sent a bill. He maintains our web site and has not sent a bill.

Other members have helped with research, editing and writing, and none have been paid for it.

Climate Sceptics news – 11/09/09

The political climate continues to hot up, with more double dissolution triggers possible as the senate continues to reject government legislation. One would expect a double dissolution is going to be an option for Kevin Rudd to call from February next year.

I have included a PowerPoint® slide show (http://carbon-sense.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/ashby-presentation.pps, 2.6MB) for you to pass around to your email contacts or to use at any community group meetings you get a chance to put something on.

Please send it to whoever you like.

Time for Climate Sense

By Viv Forbes
23 December 2019

Svante Arrhenius (1859-1927) was a Swedish scientist who first claimed that the burning of hydro-carbons like coal, oil, gas, peat and wood may cause global warming.

In 1895 he calculated (incorrectly) that a doubling of the atmospheric CO2 concentration would lead to a 4-5 oC rise in global temperature.

However, Arrhenius suggested that this increase could be beneficial, making the various climates on Earth “more equable” and stimulating plant growth and food production. (more…)

Climate Smart?

Media Statement Sunday 1st July 2007

A new organisation called “The Carbon Sense Coalition” has been set up to defend the role of carbon on earth and in the atmosphere.

Chairman of the new group, Mr Viv Forbes, a pasture manager, soil scientist and geologist from Rosevale in Queensland, says the group is concerned at the growing and unjustified vilification of carbon by politicians and the media.

More information on The Carbon Sense Coalition can be found on our web site at www.carbon-sense.com.

“The impetus for the formation of the group was, firstly the proposal that carbon dioxide be labelled as a pollutant in the Federal National Pollutant Inventory, and secondly a set of wholly destructive policy proposals from the Queensland government in their document Climate Smart 2050 – Queensland climate change strategy 2007 – a low carbon future.”

The response from The Carbon Sense Coalition to Climate Smart 2005, is entitled Look before you Leap.

In it, The Carbon Sense Coalition accuses the Queensland Government of proposing draconian policies which will have no effect whatsoever on global temperature, but will, if pursued, do tremendous damage to most Queenslanders.

(The full text of Look Before you Leap can be downloaded from:
http://carbon-sense.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/look.pdf).

Mr Forbes said that Queensland, more than any other state or country, depended heavily on carbon products for its past and future livelihood.

“It is unbelievable that the Premier of the state with the resources and skills to lead the world in coal, cattle, sheep, tourism and mineral processing, all of which depend on carbon, should try to lead the world into a low carbon future.

“Queensland is a big decentralised state. It is heavily dependent on diesel fuel and coal power for the road, rail, sea and air transport which moves our mineral and food exports, our fishing fleets and brings our tourists. All of these cornerstone industries are threatened by carbon caps or taxes.

“What is also of great concern, is the spectacle of Australian state governments trying to out-bid the Federal government with silly carbon promises. They should all cease their emissions.

“Carbon is the building block for all life on earth. It provides all of the food and most the energy for the human race. Carbon dioxide is a tiny part of the atmosphere, yet it sustains all life on earth. It is NOT a pollutant. To be anti-carbon is to be anti-life and anti-human.

“It is unbelievable that many in politics and the media are whipping up public hysteria about ‘global warming’ when the best evidence suggests that for the 100 years ending in the year 2000, the century of coal, steel, electricity, the internal combustion engine, jet planes, two world wars and a population explosion, the average surface temperature rose by only 0.6 deg, and there has been NO increase in temperature since 1998. In many areas, surface temperatures have been falling for decades.

“Even if the water vapour and carbon dioxide produced by man did cause some slight warming of the earth, is this a problem? Eons of geological history show that a warm, moist, carbon-rich atmosphere encourages all life on earth. These periods are referred to as ‘Golden Ages’. The cold barren periods are those to be feared – they get called ‘The Dark Ages’.

“Most people prefer warm climates and look forward to summer. They do not flock to Alaska, Archangel or Antarctica for winter – they head for Bermuda, the Black Sea or Bali, and Australian politicians find reasons to visit Cairns. All over the world, the human race is migrating towards the sun belts – Florida, the Riviera, and Queensland – very few volunteer for Siberia. President Putin voiced what many Russians must think – ‘a bit of warmth would be welcome here’.

“Moreover, a bit of warmth would vastly increase the land suitable for growing food and natural fibres. On the other hand, a slight cooling would take much of the farmlands of Canada, Northern Eurasia and New Zealand out of production, and parts of Tasmania and Victoria may have to convert from producing wheat and dairy products to farming caribou or reindeer.

“There is no evidence that carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is driving surface temperature, and there is plenty of evidence to show that current levels of temperature and carbon dioxide are neither extreme nor of concern.

“Carbon dioxide plays a wholly beneficial role in the atmosphere, and there is no evidence that this would change should carbon dioxide levels rise. It is being vilified because it is a so-called ‘Greenhouse Gas’.

“However, it is not even an important ‘Greenhouse Gas’ – water vapour is more effective and 100 times more abundant. Moreover, these atmospheric gases are earth’s protective shield – without them we would fry by day and freeze at night.

“The unprecedented Climate of Fear gripping the Western World is based on long term forecasts of surface temperature produced by some complex and highly dubious computer models which cannot forecast the weather with any accuracy beyond 5 days and cannot forecast the path of a cyclone from hour to hour.

“The output of a complex computer simulation of the atmosphere is not ‘evidence’. It is a fluttering flag of forecasts, hung on a slim flagpole of theory, resting on a leaky raft of assumptions, which is drifting without the rudder of evidence, in cross currents of ideology emotion and bias, on the wide deep and restless ocean of the unknown.

“There is no evidence, no consensus among scientists, no clear benefits, no reliable projections but huge potential costs if Australia does indeed pursue a ‘low Carbon Future’.

“To understand the phenomenon requires more than knowledge of science, the carbon cycle and atmospheric processes – it requires an understanding of mass psychology, the field of choice for many in politics and the media.”
